HBRE Wind Power Solution Co has initiated the construction of a 120-MW wind farm in Vietnam, its chairman Ho Ta Tin said on Friday, as cited by Bloomberg.
The wind power facility will be situated in Vietnam’s Central Highlands province of Dak Lak and will be built in three phases. The project calls for an investment of VND 6 trillion (USD 281m/EUR 266m). Its first phase will consist of a 28-MW plant, scheduled to become operational in 2016.
Construction of the 120-MW complex will last until 2020, Tin told the news agency. Once completed, the 60-turbine park will be able to generate about 400 million kWh of electricity per year, or enough to supply 200,000 homes, Vietnam-based HBRE Wind estimates. Turbines for the project will be supplied by US conglomerate General Electric.
At the end of 2014, Danish Vestas Wind Systems signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Vietnam’s Phu Cuong Group for the construction of a 170-MW wind farm in the Asian country. The scheme is part of Vietnam’s efforts to promote the development of wind power in order to meet growing demand for energy.
Vietnam currently has 52 MW of installed wind power capacity. Its goal is to have 1,000 MW of wind farms by 2020.
